Turkcell - No Chance But Victory
The Battle of Gallipoli or the Battle of Çanakkale was a campaign of the First World War that took place on the Gallipoli peninsula. In January 1916, after eight months' fighting, with approximately 250,000 casualties on each side, the land campaign was abandoned, and the invasion force withdrew. It was a costly defeat for the Allies and the sponsors. The campaign was considered a tremendous Ottoman victory. In Turkey, it is regarded as a defining moment in the history of the state, a final surge in defence of the motherland as the Ottoman Empire retreated. The struggle formed the basis for the Turkish War of Independence and the declaration of the Republic of Turkey eight years later, with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who rose to prominence as a commander at Gallipoli, founder and president.
BRIEF:
Turkcell -the most established telecommunication company in Turkey- wanted to honour the memory of martyrs with a video, which was going to be aired on national televisions and social media accounts. The voice-over text was emotional and proud. We were commissioned to produce the project.
CHALLENGES:
The project needed a visual style that will attract masses in a patriotic way. There should be epic war scenes, but the tone of designs must be suitable for national tv and all age groups. Also, historical accuracy on geography, clothing, probes and settings must be in aligned with the first world war.
UNIQUE SOLUTION:
We pursue a motion comic style esthetics with realistic illustrations. Studied wartime photographies and watched first world war videos related to the events. To convey the emotional message of the voice-over text, we build our storyboard around epic framings and larger than life environments. Smooth compositing added a fast pace tone to the animation.
